Forest School
At Maggie’s, we are proud to offer an on site Forest School program that immerses children in nature and promotes hands-on, experiential learning. Our qualified and experienced forestry team, coupled with this wonderful natural environment is designed to nurture a child’s innate curiosity and foster a deep connection with the natural world.
Benefits of Our Forest School
Enhanced Physical Development
Outdoor activities such as climbing, running, and balancing help children develop gross motor skills, strength, and coordination. The varied terrain of natural environments challenges children physically, promoting overall health and fitness.
Emotional and Social Growth
Forest School fosters resilience, confidence, and independence. Children learn to take calculated risks, solve problems, and work collaboratively with their peers, building strong social skills and emotional intelligence.
Connection to Nature
Spending time in nature encourages a sense of environmental stewardship. Children learn about ecosystems, wildlife, and the importance of conservation, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.
Improved Cognitive Skills
Nature-based learning enhances cognitive abilities such as attention, memory, and creativity. The unstructured play and discovery in a forest setting stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Stress Reduction
Nature has a calming effect on children, reducing stress and anxiety. The serene outdoor environment of Forest School provides a peaceful space for children to relax and recharge.
Safety is our top priority. Our Forest School sessions are led by trained educators who ensure a safe and supportive environment. We conduct thorough risk assessments and provide appropriate supervision to ensure all activities are safe and enjoyable for every child.
Our Forest School Experience
Exploration and Discovery
Children are encouraged to explore their surroundings, discovering plants, insects, and wildlife. They engage in activities such as bug hunts, leaf collecting, and nature journaling, sparking their curiosity and love for science.
Creative Play
Our Forest School provides opportunities for imaginative play using natural materials. Children build dens, create mud kitchens, and craft with sticks and leaves, fostering creativity and resourcefulness.
Skill Development
We offer structured activities that teach practical skills, such as knot tying, fire building, and safe tool use. These activities build confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
Seasonal Learning
Each season brings new learning experiences. In spring, children might observe plant growth and nesting birds, while autumn provides opportunities to learn about changing leaves and animal hibernation.
